Just to let you know, www.dodruyoga.co.uk is now on Facebook too, so it will be easy to keep up to date with classes, events and other inspiring yoga-related stuff!!
A very big thank you to the ladies of the Chasetown WI who welcomed me to their meeting last week. It was fantastic to see so many of you having a go at Energy Block Release movements, and I had some lovely feedback about the relaxation session at the end. I hope my talk gave you the confidence and inspiration to try out a yoga class near you!
Next week is National Veggie Week and I thought it would be good to get involved. Why? Well, many people who practice yoga also try to follow Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, a set of guidelines relating to every aspect of your life, which aim to help you become a healthy, truthful, respectful & balanced person. One part of these Sutras is called Ahmisa, which translates as non-violence, ensuring that you do no harm to others or yourself. Many yogis believe that being vegetarian ensures that no animal will have come to harm to provide food.
We also know that eating more vegetables and less red meat and saturated fat is healthy, so even if you don't want to become a vegetarian, having more meat-free meals might help you feel healthier. If you have a favourite veggie recipe, please bring it in. I can put them all on this website so we can all try them out. Alternatively, have a look at some of the recipes at nationalvegetarianweek.org for inspiration. Next week we will continue to work with Balance In Our Lives, practicing both Triangles and then ... dum dum dum ... a strong and invigorating balancing asana, the Eagle. Hopefully the weather will also be sufficiently warm and dry to get outside for a walking meditation. Bring the sunshine with you please!
Hi bobby, I am struggling with the same thing. Try the windmill breath, breathing in as you lift one arm up, and out as the arm comes down. It will open up your lungs one at a time and might just help. Just remember to then swap sides ;) For your ears, try lying so your head is just off the end of the bed. Not a yoga thing but it helps drain the sinuses and canals to the ears. Hope it helps. Colds are so rubbish in warm weather! |
