Yoga for Teens
As children mature into teenagers, their bodies and their lifestyle change rapidly and their natural fitness, flexibility and peace of mind often drop off just as they enter a potentially stressful time of life.
Today's young people are facing more pressure, stress & stimulation than ever before, and I feel we have a responsibility to teach them how to cope with the often 24/7 demands placed on them from all sides. Teenagers could also do with learning techniques to adapt to the many physical and emotional changes occurring in their lives, to increasing independence & becoming confident in themselves and their abilities. This is the perfect time to learn techniques to deal positively with stressful situations. Yoga can be invaluable in improving flexibility of both the body and mind, improving concentration, raising self-esteem and strengthening confidence. This year I have signed off nearly a dozen students completing their Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards and have provided sessions for: - mixed groups of Year 7-11 pupils for yoga, meditation & breathing (one day each term as part of their World Religion (Buddhism) curriculum) - Year 10 girls as part of the relaxation & stress management for PSHE curriculum - Year 11 World Religion Day (Six classes for all Year 11s on one day) - GCSE exam preparation (Breathing, Concentration & Relaxation) (Four weekly sessions leading up to exams) |
